Hot on the heels of the club’s official contest to design Borussia Dortmund’s Home shirt for the 2023-24 season, the German side got the Kit of the Week (KOTW) treatment a little while ago now.
The time passed is evidenced in the entries from KitKong and NSGraphics - the latter the winning entry - which feature the printing of recent Manchester City signee Erling Haaland, but the stage contained an enormous array of styles and approaches across the 28 submissions.
This included, funnily enough, a couple of creations, from RXO and Narci, which featured adidas stylings - noteworthy considering the leaks of a certain 2022-23 Cup design - and plenty which nodded to Nike masterpieces of the past.
ArmorKuma’s Away owed a lot to the iconic work of Drake Ramberg, while TRIDENTE, 3masprat, ONI and this site’s opinion piece writer, Jay29ers, all sought inspiration from the shirt worn in the 1997 Champions League Final victory.
The lattermost, along with Tombot’s brainchild, used the official competition’s outline - Tombot even saw their handiwork feature in the BVB’s publicity for the selection process - and there will have been others featured in our gallery which carried hopes of realisation.
That realisation would have been in the form of a Puma shirt, and that’s exactly what won out in the voting. Huge congratulations to NSGraphics for their modern, classy effort and- Sorry? Were our entries better than those that made BVB’s shortlist? We couldn’t possibly comment.
